STEPHEN CHUNG - B.A. (Hons) - Principal
He is a senior solicitor who started his legal career in 1973 in Hong Kong, following graduation from King’s College. He left Hong Kong as Head of Litigation Department of a legal firm there and moved to England to read Law at the University of the West of England, Bristol. He served his articles in a local firm in Bristol and was admitted as a Solicitor in 1982. He worked for several firms before starting his legal practice in 1985, initially as Stephen Chung & Co.
He finds interest in all aspects of law, particularly commercial and residential property transactions, landlord and tenant issues, immigration and appeals, planning law, wills and probate, divorce and Magistrates Court and Tribunal work. He is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese and is the legal advisor to many organisations. His vast experience in law forms the backbone to his past and present legal practices and he remains the key person of all official duties.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Due to the planned retirement of our principle, Mr Stephen Chung, effective provisionally from 01.10.2024 (“the Cessation Date”) when this Practice is likely to be closed down permanently, he is accepting instructions only for works which can be concluded well before the Cessation Date and as mentioned in this website. You are well advised to seek alternative representation if your transaction requires further or continued legal advice or assistance. Please check our website regularly for further development.
Under our professional rules, we have to keep our records for a maximum period of 6 years from the date of completion and we shall then be allowed to destroy or discard them without any further notice to our clients and others concerned. For completed or on-going matters, we would have already provided our clients with the originals, photocopies or images as appropriate but they may contact us (in writing and by email only) for scanned images. Subject to availability, we shall endeavour to supply but by email only. We shall publish before the Cessation Date our future correspondence and email addresses.

- I shall close down my firm, Chung & Co, Solicitors, as from 1.10.2024 and shall change my business model to a self-employed Senior Consultant Solicitor. I shall be working in conjunction with some selected law firms and together we can offer wider legal services. Chung & Co, Solicitors shall no longer exist and be a firm regulated by SRA and covered by any professional indemnity insurance. It will not and cannot accept any new instructions which must be directed to me personally and I will deal with them under my new role. I shall continue to be holding a Solicitor’s Practising Certificate and covered by the professional indemnity insurance of my chosen firm. For “Chung & Co, Solicitors”, I have already obtained a Run-Off or Final Professional Indemnity Insurance Cover and paid the premium in full in accordance with our professional cessation rules;

- From 1.10.2024, I shall rename it from “Chung & Co, Solicitors” to “Office of Stephen Chung, Solicitor”. My office hours shall be the same and I shall remain seeing clients only by prior appointment to be made by email or telephone;
- I have changed all my email addresses and you must from now on use only stephenchung1024@gmail.com.
My telephone number 0161 2286777 remains unchanged but I no longer use fax;
- If there is any document to be returned to clients, I shall be contacting them soon. Alternatively, please email me with your query. All solicitors are required by our professional rules to keep documents for clients for up to 6 years only which starts from 1.10.2024. They will be stored in the meantime securely and confidentially within or outside our office and they are returnable to the clients themselves on request. After 6 years, they will then be destroyed or otherwise disposed of securely without any further notice; and
- All existing or new instructions from 1.10.2024 shall be handled by me and/or my selected other law firms and you can be rest assured that you shall continue be receiving the same high quality of work as offered by me and/or Chung & Co, Solicitors for the past many years.
